After a distinguished 17-year tenure in Singapore, culminating in clinching the 2022 Singapore Trainers' Premiership, Group 1-winning trainer Tim Fitzsimmons has returned to Australia, establishing his operations at Bendigo Racecourse in Victoria. Reflecting on this significant move, Tim shared, "Returning to Australia feels like coming full circle. I'm eager to bring the knowledge and experience I've gained overseas to the vibrant racing community here in Bendigo."
This strategic relocation not only brings Fitzsimmons closer to his roots but also positions him within reach of Australia's premier metropolitan racecourses, including Flemington, Caulfield, and Moonee Valley, as well as key regional tracks like Ballarat, Geelong, and Swan Hill. "Being based in Bendigo offers unparalleled access to some of the country's top racing venues," Tim noted. "This central location ensures our horses have the best opportunities to compete and succeed across various tracks."
In preparation for this transition, Fitzsimmons acquired the leading training facility at Bendigo from long-term resident Shane Fliedner. The state-of-the-art complex boasts 26 boxes and modern amenities, providing an optimal environment for training elite racehorses. Tim emphasized, "Our new facilities are top-notch, allowing us to implement advanced training techniques and provide the best care for our horses. It's an exciting step forward for Fitzsimmons Racing."
Throughout his career, Fitzsimmons has achieved significant milestones. In his third year of training, he secured his 100th career win with Foxship's victory in the $20,000 Open Maiden race. Reflecting on this achievement, Tim said, "Reaching 100 wins was a testament to the hard work of our team and the trust of our owners. It's a milestone that motivates us to aim even higher."
In July 2023, Golden Monkey delivered a stellar performance by winning the Group 1 Singapore Derby, solidifying his status as a top-tier racehorse. Guided by jockey Hugh Bowman, Golden Monkey showcased exceptional speed and stamina, securing victory in this prestigious 1800-meter race. This triumph not only highlighted the horse's remarkable abilities but also underscored the effective training strategies employed by Fitzsimmons Racing.
Reflecting on this significant win, Tim Fitzsimmons remarked, "Golden Monkey's performance in the Singapore Derby was a testament to his talent and the dedication of our team. Achieving such a milestone reinforces our commitment to excellence as we transition our operations to Bendigo."
As Fitzsimmons embarks on this new venture in Bendigo, he brings with him a legacy of excellence and a commitment to advancing the Australian horse racing industry. "I'm thrilled to be part of the Australian racing scene once again," he remarked. "Our goal is to build strong partnerships with owners and achieve outstanding results on the track. The future looks bright, and we're ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Reflecting on his formative years in the racing industry, Tim Fitzsimmons remarked, "Working under legends like Bart Cummings, Greg Eurell, Lloyd Williams, and Cliff Brown was an invaluable experience. Their mentorship instilled in me a deep respect for the sport and taught me the nuances of training at the highest level."
